AMERICAN DREAM METAPHORICAL EXPRESSIONS IN THE GREAT GATSBY

Happiness is the goal of American dream; a means to reach happiness wealth; in following turn, wealth cannot be gained without optimism, opportunities, and hard work. Meanwhile, massive use conceptual metaphor raises question whether all domains, namely work, wealth, were expressed Great Gatsby whose theme dream. The data collection technique was document analysis. differentiated from non-data, taxonomized, analyzed their components, dominance. results show that domains dream are types metaphors. Structural ontological metaphors have slight differences terms sum. orientational metaphor, however, has an extreme gap compared first two metaphors.Key words: dream, conceptual, expression
